According to Microsoft they are going to end support for all the Windows 10 mobile devices in next December. Microsoft stopped developing new features and hardware for Windows 10 mobile devices back in 2017. But still Microsoft released relevant security updates and software updates until now. Microsoft announced that they will discontinue all of their support for Windows 10 mobile devices in December 10th 2019. According to Microsoft Official support notes, Windows 10 mobile version 1709 which was released on October 2017 will be the last update for Windows 10 mobile devices. And all the updates for this version will end on December 10, 2019.
Microsoft recommended all the Windows 10 mobile users should move to either IOS or Android devices considering that they will no longer provide any support after this December. They officially explained that in FAQ on Windows 10 mobile end of life. Microsoft stated that even though they discontinue support in December, some of device backups and some app settings will continue for another three months which will also end in March 10th, 2020. However Microsoft stated that they will provide some services such as photo uploads, cloud services and device backups for another 12 months from end of support.
End of Microsoft Windows 10 mobile support was unpredicted considering they also ended Windows Phone 8.1 support on July 11th of 2017. According to reports Microsoft has embraced Android OS as their main mobile version of Windows. Furthermore Microsoft stated that they are currently focusing on developing apps and services for IOS and Android devices. So the all the existing Windows 10 mobile users will have to choose either IOS or Android before end of the year.
